Basic facts

WALT: Practice our stages for maths.I really enjoyed this because it wasn't just basic facts it was also division and subtraction. I thought that the square roots were difficult. Next to be BTB        ( better than before) I could try a lower stage to practice my square roots.

Escape the halloween Room

WALT: Escape the Halloween escape room successfully.
for maths, we did a Halloween escape room and in that escape room, there was five different clues to get out. I really enjoyed it because the clues used different strategies so you weren't just doing the same thing five times. It was challenging because the clues were difficult.

Noah Barleywater runs away

 Title: Noah Barleywater Runs Away
Author: John Boyne
Type of book: Fiction

This book is quite amazing and creative and I would recommend this to anybody who enjoys fairy tales and adventurous novels. It has moving and talking trees moving doors and a wall-mounted timekeeping device and it also includes 14 magical pictures that illustrate the story well. I personally like this book because it is so random but it all joins together somehow.

Term 3 Reflection

WALT: Reflect on our term.
I really enjoyed making this slide because I could use my imagination with how it looked and what information was on it. I found it challenging to think about what different information I should put in the for the questions. To be better than before I could put a bit more detail in each answer.

Noah Barleywater's huge adventure

This is the book that Tai Poutini is reading. So far An eight-year-old boy named Noah has run away from his home for an unknown reason and he has passed two villages and is still in the third one. On his way through the third village, he passed a strange yet normal looking tree covering a large house built on an old toy shop while he was staring at the tree he ran into a talking donkey and a wise old dachshund that told him he was staring at the tree for a whole hour and everybody that stares at it will lose track of time an then long story short he is now in the toy shop and he can't believe it.

Film Festival video

WALT:  Write a script and film a video for the film festival representing our school.
This is what Me, Bella, Maya, and Jason have made for the film festival
This is our film 2.0 because we showed the class our film and then we got feedback like how it was a bit confusing and it needed a bit more detail and then we acted on that feedback to make it better than before. I thought that filming the different angles was quite challenging but the planning was really fun because we could use our imagination.

Making Courses for coding robots

WALT: Make a course for the sphero robots.
Me and Maya's course has a bridge that goes over blue water and rocks. The bridge is made out of clear plastic so you can see the water underneath and there is also a tunnel that is now made out of cardboard. We tested out our course and the sphero can't go over the bridge but we have fixed it so there is a sign saying go over if you dare so people don't go over the bridge and they go around it on the side path.  Our next step is to code the robots to go over the course by itself and we don't need to drive it over.

Transformation using grids

Today we got to draw a picture using grids and we could either use polyline or curve line and selected one to draw our picture but we got to do a koru and a tree to do before we did our own picture. I thought that the koru was hard at the start but then it was easier and the tree was harder because of the shading of the colours, but then it was fine.
Have you tried to sketch a picture using grids?

WALT: find alternatives to waste in our lunch boxes
I enjoyed learning heaps of different ways to reduce the rubbish in my lunch box. I thought that thinking of the ways to reduce rubbish was challenging. Now I will try to stop buying bars in plastic I challenge you to stop buying one of the things in your lunch that has plastic on it.

My Maps

We learned how to use Google MyMaps and then we got to look closely at our own environment and locate landmarks. For each landmark we found we had to name it, write something about it and find an image of it so that the pin on our map had information on it. This is my finished map of Wellington. Have you ever used MyMaps to locate places in your community?

Creating music at capital E

While we were on camp we went to capital E and while we were there we made a one-minute long segment of music using different sounds and loops. I enjoyed fading the sounds and finding the different sounds that went together. I thought that trying to find sounds that worked together was difficult and fun because there were so many sounds but it helped that they were in categories.

  my music
WALT: To share Paroa Schools current composting area
We made a video to show the schools composting situation and what we could do to make it better. I enjoyed talking about the compost and how much rubbish was in the composting areas. I thought that filming the video was challenging because we had to film it on our Chromebooks.
To be better than before we could say more about what we could do to make it a better compost system.

Waka Art

WALT: find symbols that represent our family.
I put this main emblem on my hoe because it represents my family and their home country England.
I put the paw print in because I have a pet puppy and the 3 belts represent the three different karate dojos that I have been to. I enjoyed drawing all of the different details but it was challenging to draw the castle.
I could be BTB by drawing more symbols in the gaps.

Word of the week: Assertive

WALT: broaden our vocabulary
We did this by choosing a word and then writing the meaning in our own words. Then writing 3 Synonyms for that word then we wrote a sentence with that word in it and then made a picture to do with the sentence.

in late February we had some visitors. Three scientists and a DOC person as well. They came to our school to teach Whenua and Ngahere about weeds, native plants, the japanise honeysuckle the Honshu White Admiral Butterfly and we even released some into the bush by the field. They said that in a few weeks we would start to see them and their cocoons.

Friday, March 1, 2019

my Walt was to describe a special place without saying where it was. I enjoyed describing the place using heaps of adjectives. I found that having the right adjectives in the right place and trying to get a good array of adjectives was challenging.
